Software Help

This page provides general information about various software used at Reed by students, faculty, and staff. While this list is not exhaustive, it does include links to some of the most commonly used software.

Productivity Software

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) is automatically installed on Reed-owned computers. Current students, faculty, and staff are also able to install Office on a personal Windows or Mac computer.

  • Google Apps is used for Email, Calendar, Docs/Drive, and Groups
  • Zoom allows you to schedule or host online videoconference meetings, and present information by sharing your screen. Meetings can also be recorded and shared for later viewing. Faculty and staff can make and receive phone calls through the Zoom app on a computer or mobile device.
  • Adobe Software
    • For students: Creative Cloud is available on limited computers in the on the third floor of the Performing Arts Center
    • For faculty and staff: Annual subscriptions funded by the department are available to staff or faculty who need it for their work. Visit the Adobe page to learn more and to request a license.
  • SensusAccess - online conversion tool. Need to convert a PDF to an editable Word doc? Or convert other file types to an accessible format? SensusAccess converts documents into a range of alternate and accessible formats.

Academic Software

Some of Reed's academic software used in courses is available for students to install on a personal computer.  For a comprehensive list, please visit . Due to licensing restrictions, some software may only work while on campus. In other cases, the software may be accessed remotely through the Virtual Computer Lab.

  • For Administrative Staff: Some administrative systems such as Banner, Fileshares, and Microsoft Remote Desktop can be accessed remotely from your Reed computer when connected to the VPN.
  • For Faculty and Students: Upon request, some faculty research or lab computers may be accessible through the VPN. Students and faculty must submit a request to use the VPN.

Library Databases -  Many of the Library databases are available remotely when accessed from the URL linked on the Library website.
